Beautiful rare Oak Bechstein Upright Piano, designed by the Engligh Architect Walter Cave (1863-1939). Features two candlestick holters, decorative ornate brass hinges. Brass nameplate on the front of the piano inscribed C.Bechstein Berlin. Lovely condition, plays well with a warm, rich tone & responsive touch.
The Piano is similar to one at the National Trust house Shaws Corner, Hertfordshire.
Walter Cave was known for his work in the style of Arts & Crafts, later in Classical Revival.
Arts & Crafts movement was from 1860 and lasted until around 1920. William Morris commenced the movement to improve craftmanship, focusing on medieval style, uniting patterns & simplicity of form.
